     Subject: Back from Triumphest -

Just a note for all those who didn't attend but wanted to. Got back from
Triumphest, Sunday night. Weather was great, never got too hot and
actually rained on the Funcours Saturday morning around 10 o'clock. Quite
a sight to see all those people scrambling to cover their cars. Laughlin
is, well, like Vegas for retirees, If you like that sort of thing,
personally I don't gamble (kind of an oxymoron considering I drove a GT6
there :-}) but had a good time anyway. As I drove up Thursday, I ran into
a L.A. based Triumph club caravaning on I-40 just before Barstow, ( 180
miles, about the half way point for me). We all stopped there and had
lunch, and I continued with them the rest of the way to Laughlin. Great
fun to see about ten cars, a couple of Stags, TR3's TR4's, 250's, and 6's
and one misplaced MGB (yes they were actually going to Triumphest) all
lined up cruising on the freeway! The car ran flawlessly except for a
stint after Barstow. Apparently it does NOT like ARCO gas. Coughed and
sputtered on acceleration until I filled it up in Laughlin at $1.89 a
gallon ( my usual is about $1.59)! Cruised at 70+ all the way there and
back, getting around 27 MPG. Lot's of gorgeous cars. They seem to be
getting better and better every year. There was even an immaculate Gloria
which won best of show and it was no trailer queen either, they drove it on
the rally! For those of you that don't know what they are it looks like a
large MG TD. Peoples choice went to a TR250. Got the GREAT news about
SB42 passing at the awards banquet, that got a rousing applaud!! Also
quite a few Stags, a couple Hearlds, and 2000 sedans, the usual gaggle of
TR3's 4's 250's and 6's, two other GT6's and only a few Spitfires but no
Vitesses? Andy, I looked at the Hearlds and the center hood trim looks
nothing like what I have on the Spitfire, much flatter/wider and not near
as tall. I'm wondering if possibly someone at one time offered some sort
of ' aftermarket trim' for these cars as it fits too perfectly to be for
something else? Anyway, other than the rain, It was a fairly good weekend.
What else could one want, Triumph's all around, great people having a good
time enjoying themselves! Already looking forward to next year!
