Lew,
I found out back in the '60's that quite a few alloy wheels for
Spitfires are so thick that they don't allow enough threads to catch the
lugnuts.  THus they are likely to strip out or worse come off in a hard
corner.

My boss at the time experienced such an occurrance at Texas
International Speedway in a high-banked turn.  He lost both inside
wheels.  To solve the problem, he installed longer lug bolts.
