Mufflers

I am the recent proud owner of two Spitfires.  A '71 - FK14997L and a '73 -
FM5967U.  The '71 is too loud and the '73 is too quiet.  I once owned a '64
Spitfire and as I recall it had in addition to the muffler a resonator that
gave it a beautiful sound without being too loud.  Anybody know what
happened to the resonators?  I would like to capture that sound again.
