John,
This tip was shown to me by a very old and very good seat-of-the-pants
mechanic. This old man could fix anything. As a 16 year old kid (38 years
ago) when I did not hear what my parents were saying, I heard every word
that this old man said. Sometimes I wish every young kid could have a
mentor like I did.
Warning, doing a check at BDC is easy. The piston is going to go there
anyway. Keeping it at TDC requires some thought, different cars different
methods. When you find a method that works for you, you will love that
tool.
Thank you for correcting me. I will admit that I was not politically
correct, I made no provision for the hearing impaired. How about letting
the compressor such up some Ammonia. Or even better, the nasty smelling
smoke stick used to check face masks for those who work in areas that are
not beneficial to ones health.
Have a good day, and thanks for the reply.
Mark
