As I understand the operation of SU and Zenith carbs, the oil retards the piston, thus increasing air velocity through the venturi and drawing more fuel to richen the mixture. Since we have no accelerator pump, the oil dampened piston takes it's place. Wouldn't running without oil in the dampers be the equivalent of disconnecting the accelerator pump on a more "conventional" carb? Tom Gentry Life is too short to drive boring cars! |
