When the manuals for our cars and MG's were printed they used a different
number for Octane. The number is called out in RON or research octane
number. In the the U.S. we use the R+N/2 method. This is part of the
reason for our pump gas being lower. I would recomend that he just go
ahead and use premium unleaded. When 98 RON and 91 R+N/2 are figured to
be about equivalent.
