The summer party is upon us!!!!
I've found this event to be a great amount of fun. It's unapoligetically
commercial, but when you are having that much fun, who really cares....
It's a great mix of people and cars. And with only a few exceptions, ALL
DRIVERS!!!!
For me, it's a beautiful drive near and through the Blue Ridge Mountains and
as much senic driving as I want, (the trip is about 5 hours for me, but it
has taken me as long as 11)
How often do you get to see someone really zip through the gears on their
pristene spitfire. Or see Larry's Rover V8 in a TR4 bang down the drag
strip. Larry had a wild routing on his steering linkage, but it worked. What
about a TR8 spinning twice on the autocross on still not hitting a cone! The
GT6's working their way around the cones was inspiring. Next year I will
have my TR2 out there!!!
I got a chance to talk (and drink a little) with the "wild ones" (at least
that's what I call them), a group of young Canadians (I think one of them
was Larry's son) that looked more like a hockey team than brit car enthusiasts.
Bought a concrete TR2 off a guy with a Doretti painted like a spitfire (but
I still don't know where the flamingos came from). Bruce knows more about
this guy, ask him. I still ask myself why Bruce knows so many guys.......
Speaking of Bruce, he and the rest of the Ohio contingent had a great
campsite and were very gracious to me when I dropped by and introduced
myself (wearing the t-shirt the guy with the flamingos was selling the year
before). They really didn't care so much who I was, just how much beer I had
(or Scotch). So many people and so friendly. I met Fred Thompson (all around
great guy) out there my first year, his TR3 is my inspriation for my TR2.
They (TRF) orgainze a drive out into the country that is also mucho
fantasico. Imagine a line of british cars 2 miles long driving through the
Pennslyvania countryside. I stood up in the drivers seat of my TR4 just to
see if I could see where they began and ended. I couldn't!!
Last year, they revived the drive in movie. I got in a bit late and had to
park behind the projector building. Still, it was Awesome! a functional
drive-in full of British cars!!! A rather nice TR4 or 250 parked next to me.
An attractive woman with nice children. They were very nice and stupid
enough to talk to this stranger. I roamed around the drive in with a small
keg of my homebrew knockoff of old peculier. Met several new friends, found
only a few of the original wild ones, and went back to my car to watch some
more of the movie. When I got back, I saw Charles Runyan making subtle moves
on the woman in the car next to me (or so I thought). Turns out that they
were his family! I thought it great that his entire family participates in
this thing. Thinking back, I should've offered Charles some of my homebrew
(it would have probably reduced some of my overhang, er hangover).
The final event on sunday is the show (my fingers have a hard time with can
coors dee alegance). Up and down the street, triumphs, triumphs, triumphs.
If you ever had a question about your car, here is the place to be. Experts
everywhere. You may not get the same answer twice but you will learn more
here than at home!
Hope to see you there!

1954 TR2 - patiently awaiting his turn
No affiliation with TRF. No guarentees that you will have a great time at
the party....
unless you hang with me. If I have offended anyone with the events I
depicted, they were probably lies....
P.S. Charles, sorry about the attractive woman thing, I didn't know at the time.
