It sounds like something hitting against the fllorpan, yes? I've got
this same noise on my daily driver Herald, despite all-new UJs in the
last 18 months. I'm inclined to think it's play in the yokes; not
ovality, but lateral back and forth movement, which might be taken up by
fitting thicker circlips (available from John Kipping, probably
elsewhere too). I should find out come August, as the car is being
stripped down to fit a new chassis.
