Has anybody ever expirenced this situation with their wire wheels?
I've got a TR-6 with stock wire wheels. It seems that the tires shift
slightly in relation to the wheel. When this happens, the tube also
shifts. The valve stem then gets pulled at an angle against the rim,
and it seems that the valve stem develops a slow leak. This happend
to me a few times before I realized what was happening. This most
recent time was with new tires and a new tube, after only about 80
miles of driving.
The rubber bands on the rims are in good condition. Also, when the
old tires were removed from the rims, the tire bead which contacts the
top of the spokes (outside bead) was worn from what seems like back
and forth shifting of the tire on the rim.
The tires are new BF Goodrich TA touring radials size 205-70-15, which
seem to be the recommended replacement size for the 185-15 originals.
Any help would be greatly appreciated!
