You didn't mention which side of the engine was leeking.  The right side of
the motor has a plug or valve, located above the starter, for the water
jacket.  Often if you remove this plug the water jacket in this location
will be cloged up and  water won't gush out but could seep out.  You might
want to check if the plug is there.
