On my purchase of the 'project' Spitfire, I noticed a peculiar trim piece
on the bonnet. The bonnet appears to be of MKII vintage (this car has a
mix of different year components). This stainless piece is not unlike the
wing finishers, mounted in the center of the bonnet extending down the
length of the slightly raised area in the center. It is pointed and larger
at the front, roughly 3/8 (9.5mm) high and wide, tapering smaller in height
as it approaches the rear of the bonnet. It is held in place buy several
(four I believe) threaded studs/nuts. Possibly this is from a Vitesse, but
then again that hood contour? I have never seen this trim in any picture or
on any Spitfire I have seen (and I've seen quite a few) and would discount
it as someone’s add on (which it probably is), but it conforms to the hood
contour too perfectly to be from something else. I'm debating as to
wether to leave it on or off. Anyway, I thought I'd throw it out to the
list to see if anybody has any info about it. Anybody heard of anything
like it?
