Terrick again.

Started feeding the boy racer a diet of premium gasahol (ethanol) and 100
low lead aviation fuel. Up here, it's not much more expensive than regular
premium fuel. About 25% of the above 50/50 mix added to "normal" 92 octane
premium is enough to cure all knocks and pings.

For those who care, the other point is that octane need is only for timing
and compression. If stock timing and compression dont produce a ping,
don't worry. If yes, try retarding the timing. If that solves the problem
but noticibly reduces power or econony, you know what to do. Get Juiced.
Otherwise, thank the apropriate fuel refiner.

The VTR home page also refers to homebrew fuel additives. A local racer used:

45% e10 thanol
45% lo lead aviation
10% toluene

in a 12:5:! Datsun full race motor. Yes, it often blew up, but this was a
combination of 250+ dyno'd hp out of 2.4 litres (with no maintenence) and
the nut loose behind the wheel.

So long as you don't need more than about 10% juice there should be no
problem using a witches' brew butit is unlikely to be necessary.
