Ed, having recently mounted 15"x7" Panasports on my '74 TR6 (you can
read the article at the VTR web site, www.vtr.org/maintain/tr6-panasports.html)
I can say that 215/65 will probably be TOO wide, and that the front tires
will protrude beyond the fender (the 7" Pansports have +0mm-offset,
3.9"-backspace).
225/50 tires on these rims will make your car look like a low-rider (as well
as bias your speedo readings and place additional wear on engine/drivetrain
components). SOme folk have found problems fitting the 7" Pansports in that
there is a possibility of them fouling with the upper-A arm. It
seesm to me that 205/70 on these rims will work best - even then the front
tires are barely covered by the fender.
If you stick with the original steel rims, 215/65 seem to be the
largest you can fit, with no clearance problems.
K-Speed in PA (1-800-494-0708) seem to have the best prices on
Panasports.
They are certainly more helpful in dealing with than the importer in CA.
Of course, then there are Minilites, available again in the USA
through Brooklands (1-305-776-BRIT). The 15"x6.5" go for $239 in Aluminium
(I'm not a Yank), and if you are independently wealthy, the Magnesium wheels
go for a mere $649. yup, thats each!
