Just my $0.02, but my wife had a 1985 Toyota Corolla (RIP @ 194K miles). It
would knock and run very poorly on any "normal" spark plug. I put in the
gooved electrode plugs, nipodensu ?, or Bosch platinums and it ran like a
champ. This was typical of these engines as my mother law had a similiar
engine which ran poorly after a tune up. I check and found champions were
installed. I spoke with her mechanic about changing back to the specified
Nipodensu's, he balked, but did it. Problem solved. Lately I have been
running platinums in our daily drivers. My TR3 came with standard Bosch
plugs, which are in good shape, so I have no plans to change them immediately.
I have no problem with Champion Plugs, my Norton loves them. It just seems
that some vehicles are particular, something I find amazing. I never would
have thought plugs mattered a whole lot before seeing it for myself.
