Eric,
Sounds like somebody might have put too small a fan belt on your trusty
Spit. That is actually the #1 cylinder, and you should be able to get a socket
on there. If you can't get the correct belt right away, allowing the
alternator to swing away from the water pump more, try loosening the bolt
fastening the alt. to the arched /slotted bracket, removing the belt by pushing
in on the alternator (toward fan), then swinging the alternator back toward
wheel well, thereby accessing the plug.
