Peter,
Back flushing is done by either of two methods. Both of which are fairly
easy. #1 either cut or remove one of your heater hoses and install a
back flush tee(Prestone makes a kit). attach a garden hose to the tee
via the treaded adapter, and remove your rad. cap. Install overflow
diverter (also included in kit) in the neck of the radiator. Turn on
the water to you garden hose and watch the water coming out of the rad.
When the water starts to run clear, shut off the garden hose water
supply and remove tee and diverter. Drain rad. by removing lower rad.
hose(this is quicker than using the petcock). At this point if you need
to replace any hoses do it now. After all hoses are back in there
proper places install the antifreeze of your choice in the proper ratio
for your climate(preferrably 50/50 mix). You may also want to change
your water pump and thermostat before filling.
option #2 take it to a garage that can power flush your system for you.
Hope this helps,
