Gary,

TR6's have an electric fan for the heater (at least my '71 did). So I
don't think it's the belt slipping. Lots of things get in that area. In my
case there was a bird's nest there. The little birdies gnawed at the wires
until they sepereated. After I soldered back the wires, all was OK. Was it
a tough job, you ask. No. You just have to be patient and persistant. There's
alot to taking out the entire dash, console, etc. There's at least 4 hours
taking
it out and 2 putting it back. Drain the radiator first or you'll get
the coolant all over your interior. My advice - if you are not a winter driver,
leave it be. You will get minor cuts and suffer the outrageous misfortune of
putting
your body (especially your back) through unusual contortions.
