Gentlemen,

As it is often said, "been there, done that". I have been following
this thread on Monza's being too loud. I personally disagree, but have
kept quite so far. On the '78 Spitfire I used to own, I had a Monza
and LOVED it. I dated a girl (now my wife) who lived 35 miles away
and would still love to drive around once I got there.
To ease my boredom during these long trips, I installed a rather pow-
erful radio ( although considered tame by today's standards at 50 watts)
The radio was loud enough to drown out BOTH the engine and the wind
noise
driving top down. This was for when I was alone, since conversation
would
be impossible under these conditions.
The only way I can describe it is to say that after a 45 minute trip,
it
was rather tough to hear much of what my date said. I would liken this
sort
of volume to a night at a rock concert, or gig at a local bar- it kinda
left
my ears a little numbed if I went on a long trip. But I would say that
the
wind noise from the top down is just as much of a sourch of noise as the
Monza
was, and if you've ever riden on a motorcyle with out a helmet for a
while
you'd know exactly what I'm talking about, that's it the wind, not the
motor
that gets you.
The important thing to remember is that a loud stereo just adds so
much
more volume to the ambiant noise as you turn it up to overcome it, the
sit-
uation just becomes a battle of which is the loudest- with your ears as
the
battlefield. But if music is as important to you as it is to me, then
you'll
still get the mega-stereo for your car. I've already got the system
picked
out for my 250 already, and it won't see the road until next year.
