With all the exhausting discussions lately about Monza and other
freeflow systems I felt like tossing in a few comments and a question to all
the Chosen Ones that judge cars.
I have been running a freeflow system by the name of Stebro since the
early 70's. I will have to agree that on long trips you just don't realize
how loud it really is until you get out for gas and your ears are still
ringing and you have to say "what" a lot to the cashier. Lately I have
been
using on the recommendation of a hearing doctor something call "Mack's
Earplugs". You can get them from drugstores. They really do make a big
difference. As a comparison I also purchased several other types to check
them all out. They were easier to use and kept a better seal than the type
you roll skinny and they expand inside the ear canal. Most of these type of
plugs reduce 20-30 bd. It is a way around having those nice tones and keep
your hearing.
Now here is the question to the judges out there. Now remember I am not
whining but am just looking for some insight. I feel my car is very close to
being the best so I am looking for very small details that can make the
difference. When my car was being looked at for best of show recently at a
VTR event it was mentioned to me that one of the thing that kept me out was
the lack of a stock real muffler. . I was under the understanding that any
period hardware was acceptable. Is that really the case on the VTR National
level? Now while my car came with black plug wires you could also add the
yellow and black performance wires back then as well. I have kind of held
back on re-installing my fiberglass spoiler for the last 5 years just
because of this gray zone. Is it best to loose these things before a big
event and reinstall your personal touches afterward?
