Broken Block

     Has anyone on the list heard of the following problem that has 
     happened to my 2500cc Block?
     
     While tightening the oil filter, without undue force, (using a 
     standard 5/8th inch ring spanner) the casting within the block where 
     the bolt goes in snapped off!  This casting is about an 1-1/4 inch and 
     just shouldn't break!
     
     I'm now up for a new block.  Curious to see if I'm the first with this 
     problem?
