If your head studs and nuts are original they may be stretched.
Ken related in a tech article a few years ago how a string of
head gasket failures lead him to find that the head studs and nuts
can stretch and not allow the proper torque to be transferred to
the head. As a result, Ken also sells a set of upgraded studs
and nuts.
