Jeff,
You asked, "Are you covering the old panels with some sort of vinyl?
Where can you buy it? How did you attach it? What about filling the old
cracks and gouges?"
I have heard of two approaches to fix a cracked dash:
1) Replace it with a new piece, available from most of the "usual
suppliers" mentioned on the list. I have chosen this route since all of
my crash pads are in lousy shape. I bought my set from TRF, and the
quality of the parts looks pretty good.
2) There are also "dash caps", made out of a denser (harder?) plastic
one of the local LBC wrench uses to fix cracked dash tops. Installed
properly they look pretty good, and I'm told they are pretty easy to
work with. Think of it as a plastic venner that you glue onto your
existing dash.
hope this helps,
Bill
