I've been there, and am still leading my baby back towards the light...
The thing I found in my '57 TR3 smallmouth was rust in the frame, some
in spots that I wouldn't have expected. Make sure that the frame is good
before you remove the body.
I've always heard that you should repair the boady on the frame without
disturbing it, but in my case the body mounting points from the floor
back were gone, so alignment was questionable anyway.
I've spent literally weeks aligning the parts as I put them back
together, but then almost the entire rear of my car is new metal.
