I built a tool some time ago that let me push the rack mounts apart while
a helper tightened them down. It's hard to describe, but I'll try. It
is made of 1/8th by 1 inch steel stock. The main bar is about three feet
long. in the center of that I loosely bolted a shorter bar, so it
formed a "Y" shape. Make two of these,on to go on each side, front and
back, of the rack. Wedge the two "y" legs against the mount and pull
down on the long bar. The shorter leg pushes out on one mount, while the
longer bar pushes out on the other.
Or you can buy the solid aluminum rack mounts sold by TRF, SICP and Moss.
I bought a pair, but have yet to try them. Some folks say you get too
much "feedback."
