I'll second this opinion. These also appeared on some Heralds, which, of
course, shared similar components. After a period of time, these "reaction
plates" serve primarily to lengthen the time spent removing the gearbox
from the car, as one needs to get the @#*^%$##@+ thing out of the way.
It's not as if the earlier Heralds and Spitfires had so much torque that
any restraint was really required, eh? ;-)
