A neighbor of mine has a bunch of TR4 parts in his garage which I am
cataloging and will post for sale in a day or two. However, I am having
trouble identifying a headless engine and would appreciate any help. It is
clearly not a TR4 engine and may not be a Triumph at all. Here is what I
could determine with the engine in a corner and not altogether visible:
4 cylinders, bore about 3.125", ie between a Spitfire and a TR4;
oil filter, dipstick and distributor on right side of engine (opposite to
the TR4);
sump only about 8" long, unlike TR4 which runs full length of engine;
peculiar oblong metal box bolted to upper left side of engine with a kinked
pipe coming up from the front;
prominent 5 tooth timing marker on timing chain cover;
serial # above oil filter reads (I think) 18GK-WE-H 17143.
Could be an MGB engine. At least the bore is about right. Any ideas or
suggestions as to whom to ask? Anyone want to buy it?
Thanks for your help.
