A question for the list,
What ever happened to Goodyear G800 redline tires that came on many TR6's?
Four of the five that I've owned seem to have had them mounted from new. One
still had the 5 original tires and three others had G800's as spares. Even
when the cars were still being made I always bought Michelin X redlines as
replacements, but I don't remember why. As I look at a worn G800 it seems to
have a more square profile and put more rubber on the road than a Michelin,
but I've never seen or talked to anyone who replaced an original set with
anything but Michelins, which most of us now feel is a very poor tire. Were
the Goodyears even worse? More expensive?
I know I should be working on my cars instead of pondering such trivia, but
if anyone can shed any light on the Goodyear vs Michelin mystery, please
humor me.
Thanks,
Jim Davis
