Thanks for asking this question - I had wondered the same. I spoke to 6
owner recently whose car was original, and his had the lower rocker areas
(below the chrome strip) done in black - sort of a rough chip resistant
material. He stated that this was original.
Also, that the rear valence area was just flat black paint, following the
indentation between the trunk and the rear bumper. That is, the valence
area behind and below the rear bumper is body colour. Sorry, it's hard
to describe in text alone, and I can't draw a picture.
