To all that are interested in track time, from the personal experience
of being on the committee for the 95 VTR Convention at Rockford, I can
tell you that this is often very difficult to arrange. We wanted to
rent Blackhawk Farms Raceway, which is only a short distance away from
Rockford. Between the track rental and the required insurance, 1 day
would have cost us $7000. Most tracks the same size as Blackhawk are
more reasonably priced (for example, Roebbling Road in 1992), but
Blackhawk is a very busy track and if we wouldn't pay the price (we
didn't), someone else probably rented the track on our date. Rik and
the ATA crew tried for Lime Rock this year, only to have a date
conflict at the track. The autocross event is typically the most
difficult event in the VTR Convention to find a site for. I'm sure our
Texas friends have expended a lot of energy on this topic, and if a
real race track is in the works, they will make sure we all know about
it.
