Well, it appears that I don't have to wait to post this on Monday, since my
trusty mechanic (who works most cost-efficiently, I might add), has already
diagnosed and priced the repairs needed. As some scions on the list had
predicted, it was the rear end, most likely a broken gear tooth. I know now
what this sounds like. It isn't pleasant nor affordable :-((
I've been quoted $450 on a used rear end, $1200 on a rebuilt rear end. What
does the wisdom say ? I can afford the used easier, but if the rebuilt is
the better way to do, I can get a part time job....
