I vote for this one....I've heard (old DPO's wives' tale?) of people
putting marbles in the gas tank on the theory that they would roll around
and help prevent rust or scale from forming large flakes or at least
grinding them up fine enough  to go down the line and clog the
filter....sounds as though someone might have though that if marbles were
good...then a golf ball....
