Well, I took a chance on the weather and went to the LBC picnic. It's
been raining moose and caribou for the past 24 hour, and been
generally wet all weekend. The low turnout was evidence of the poor
weather.
All in all, there were about 25-30 LBCs on display. There were a
brace (+1) of Jags, 2 MGBs, 1 Sprite (1964, and looking great), and a
gaggle of Triumphs - 6 or so Spitfires (74 through 81), 1 TR6, 1 TR3
(just visiting - he left early on), and a convertable 'Vitesse 6'.
Oh, and a Triumph motorcycle was on display too.
Neatest car - had to be the Vitesse. You just don't see too many of
these around anymore, and this one was in very good shape.
Neatest trick - one Spitfire replaced the bonnet prop rod with a pair
of CRX hatchback struts. It looked and worked like a hot d**n. The
only problem the guy said was that he had to clean and lube the struts
everytime he raised the bonnet. If the struts were closed with *any*
grit on them, the seals would be quickly destroyed. (Still, this is
something I'll have to try).
The most unique mod - another Spitfire had its bonnet seams smoothed
out, and had the headlight pot metal thingies chromed. Boy, did that
change the appearance of the car! It reminded me of a Citroen DS21
nose.
It was a fine afternoon, the rain held off, and the conversation was
pleasent. Not a bad way to spend a couple of hours away from the tree
house building.
