Hello Peter,

Could there be some Carbon deposits on your pistons ?  You said the car
is driven daily, if it has many thousands of miles since the last time the
head was removed, perhaps these Carbon deposits are acting like `glow
plugs' and causing the pre-ignition pinging problem;  if there are signif-
icant deposits, they effectively raise the compression ratio, also.
