Along with Ken's good advice, I would add: While you're under there
looking at rear suspension and diff areas, poke at the frame sections
that the swingarm brackets bolt to, using a screwdriver or light hammer.
You didn't say where this car is, or where it spent most of its life (if
that is known) but if it spent any time in the Rust Belt, chances are good
that there could be rust damage to those box sections, especially where
they are welded to the outer frame section. Some cars (like one I know
very well) will shower you with rust, and resemble Swiss cheese in this
area. Also, inspect the right front diff mounting bolt, it's usually the
one to get jerked loose first. Some DPO might have had a `thang' for im-
pressing fellow morons by dumping the clutch and squealing the tires; or
he could have let his 16-yr-old learn to `drive a stick' in it, you just
never know...all you know is, it's a USED car, so be skeptical.
