Don't know from no books ;-), but the swing-spring is easy:
1. Get a swing-spring.
2. Plug off the two "center" spring stud holes on your diff (cut the old
studs off flush, maybe with a slot in the top so you might be able to
get them out again if need be).
3. Install swing-spring with four remaining studs, nuts, etc.
4. get larger diameter front sway bar and install that.
Or try to find a camber compensator and forget the swing-spring. (You all
knew I'd say that, right?)
On other topics, no problem in using the 1500 engine and late-style
gearbox, except that you'll have to round up a larger u-joint flange for
the front of the driveshaft if you're using an original Spit Mk.2
driveshaft.
Beyond that, the usual upgraded springs, bushings, shocks and
wheels/tires will get you going. I'm sure others can advise further on
current "hot" modifications.
