Bob,
Couple of things. New tires don't necessarily mean proper balance. Did you
have the vibration before the new tires? If you think a tire is out of
balance, move the two front tires to the rear, and the rear tires to the
front. See if the vibration moves to the rear.
Can you detect any play in the steering? Spitfires should have only a tiny
loss of movement between the steering wheel and the tires, if any at all.
With the car parked, move the wheel gently side to side and watch the tires.
As the wheel moves so should the tires.
With the car up on jack stands, check for wheel bearing play - wiggle the in
and out at the top and bottom. At most there should be about 1/16" -1/8"
movement.
