Hi all,
My TR4A solid axle has a limited slip differential, which I think is a
Salsbury. I recently took the diff and housing out of the car to
replace the seals. Resting inside one of the axle tubes (the axles were
already removed) was a piece that I have since identified as the thrust
button.
On a standard diff, the thrust button rides on a shaft that goes thru
the differential carrier. The thrust button is supposed to be centered
between the axles. Moss Motors sell a LSD (I think it is a Quaiffe),
they say in their catalog that the thrust button is not used when the
LSD is placed in an irs car, but that it is used in a solid axle car.
There does not seem to be a shaft for the thrust button in my LSD, or a
place for the shaft. Could the PO have just put the thrust button in
the differential and let the axles keep it in place? If the thrust
button is not retained by the shaft, is it serving any purpose? Thanks
