Hi Jonathan,
If recutting the seats results in the head of the valve being
below the surface of the head then you will be losing efficiency as the
valve opening is effectively reduced, it's still better than having a
poor seal though. Re-cutting the seat is certainly the simplest solution
to pitted seats.
If you do end up having to go for inserts you might as well go the whole
way and get unleaded inserts and valves. It's expensive but then you'll
have no worries for the future.
