Just thought yall might want some follow up on the my hunt for a
replacement
gearbox for my GT6. I mentioned earlier about the junk yard versions ($500) of
unknown quality, and TRF ($850 + core + shipping). Luckly through this group I
was able to save enought $$$$ to buy my wife something for Christmas!
One week after calling Kipping in England there was a transmission sitting
on my door step. The box was not anywhere as heavy as I thought it would be.
The
listed weight from UPS was 20 kilos. My credit card bill came yesterday and
the
grand total was $458 (US). This included the gearbox, rear mounts, a set of
mounts for the differential (I am replacing it at the same time), bushings for
the steering rack, core charge, and shipping. The real plus is at that price I
get to keep my original to play with!
The only mistake was the rack bushings. I really wanted the steering rack
but I suppose I was speaking Texan, they understand English and something got
lost in the translation. But since I now know the how the system works I will
order the rack another time.
I will do the install over the holidays. Does anyone use Amsoil (synthetic)
in their transmission or differential? Since access is not easy without
removing
the interior I tend not to change the lube as frequently as I should. Any ideas?
