I just mounted a battery isolation switch in my 71B, and put it on the
front wall of the battery compartment immediately behind the passenger
side seat. Readily accessible, but not immediately obvious to anyone
aiming to releive me of my car (especilly as the black switch mounting
blends into the black carpet). I used a small hole cutter to make to
hole for the switch, and also added a plastic plate on the rear of the
switch (carved from margerine container lid) to fully isolate the area
around the cables from the bodywork. The short cable pieces I needed to
splice the switch into the circuit were made up from the longest Exide
battery cable I could find in the local parts store (they didn't sell
straight battery wire) and a couple of heavy duty connectors soldered on
using a butane torch. Because of the proximity to the fuel pump/tank
etc, I did all the butane work off the car. Works like a dream, and
also stops the annoying drop off in battery charge due to a minor ground
fault (Lucas design criterion............??) which has been plaguing me
for a couple of years.
