I thought I'd throw my opinion in about the environmental anti-freezes
available today. If you want to use the product by all means do! I put some
in my 3/4 ton chevy almost 2 years ago and have not had any trouble. Up here
in Wisconsin we see temp extremes from 100 + in the summer and -20 in the
winter and the Sierra has worked very well. As for voiding the warrenty on
newer cars, I think its a bunch of dog stuff. I had a little letter writing
war with the editors of Cars and Parts magazine concerning this subject.
Thier arguments against Sierra reflected the "new products do not belong in
old cars phobia"that permeates thier editorial content. GM published a memo
that included statements like "might cause slower warming of cab temps in
winter" and "posible wear on cooling system due to increased viscosity".
This is clearly technospeak for we don't know and we're not going to look at
it.
The Sierra literature however lists specific tests and specs right on the
bottle and backs them up with an independent warrenty on cooling system
parts. Money talks, B.S. walks as it were.
As for my experience with Sierra. It's been great and I've seen no difference
in performance when compared side by side with brands like Prestone. Keep in
mind however while Sierra is significantly less toxic it still should not be
dumped down the gutter or dumped in the yard for disposal.
All said and done, use the Sierra, you'll like it.
