I also have a metal dash on my TR4... It's how all early TR4s came
from the factory. If you have a "first-year" car that has a wood
dash it's most likely an aftermarket item. From what my sources tell
me regardless of your TR4s' color all of their dashboards were white.
This "Italian look" is common on many contemporary cars both european
and American. It points up the TR4's designer's (Michelotti)
background. It looks very sexy on, say a Ferrari... But today it
looks very retro 60s.
I've painted mine black crackle and have set it off with an
aluminum engine turned central gauge plate (with the ashtray removed).
Personally, I like the metal dash, I don't anticipate changing it
at anytime in the future. I don't care what the pundits say about
what's more valuable on my car. Hell it's a Triumph... one of over
49,000 made. There are plenty of original cars out there... I'll
bet mine is more fun.
Sorry for the delay, I was on vacation... visiting relatives and
Net Friends... (yo, John).
