I think it depends a great deal on the car and construction. I first started thinking about this when we got our Ferrari - there it's a very noticable difference. The car doesn't want to be started with the clutch in - in fact, pressing the clutch to the floor is good for dropping the rpms 50-100. Agreed about turning over cold lube in the tranny. Back in my days of cold weather in Indiana, I was careful to start the car with the clutch in, get steady idle, then release the clutch to start stirring the box. But that was long ago and far away. Another thing to consider: it is *much* easier and cheaper to replace the starter than the thrust bearings or clutch/bearing... |
