I can't say with ABSOLUTE authority, but the books say that Triumph
worked to develop the Stromberg to be totally compatible with and a
"perfect" substitute/replacement for SU installations. At the time --
early 1960s -- S-T was supposedly tired of paying much for for SUs than
did MG, etc., whose parent company also owned SU. Either type of carb
would fit the same manifold, and it was reported that test drivers
really couldn't tell which carbs were installed on a given car.
Triumph went back and forth in use of the Strombergs or SUs on TR4As.
There have been some Commission numbers quoted, but those may or may not
be absolutely correct down to the last digit. Also, since the carbs were
interchangeable in pairs, it's possible I'm sure to find either on a
given car, in the UK, US or perhaps almost anywhere else.
