Some years ago, popular Mechanics magazine had an article on "making" your own
car. It was supposed to get ~50 mpg (this was around the contrived gas crisis
of the early 70's). It was based on a Spitfire frame and drive train, a do it
yourself fiberglas body and a diesel engine. One of the keys to very high gas
efficiency was the use of the Spitfire *OVERDRIVE*. There may be some
information in that article on adaptor requirements and other details
surrounding such a conversion to other LBCs.
