... This from Don Antilla, who tried to submit his boot replacement answer,
and it wasn't accepted by autox.
1. preheat the top of the new boot in very
warm water. Let it soak.
2. Remove the knob
3.Slip the boot on from the top
4.
Get a medium size phillips screw driver, with a round shaft(no square or
beveled edges)
Slip it between the center boot hole and the top of the
shift lever.
5. Gently pull on the screwdriver outwardly to widen the hole so
that it slips over one of the
reverse fingers. Repeat, slipping the hole
over the remaining reverse release finger.
6. As you do this you might think
you'll tear the boot, but go gently while the boot is still warm.
7 Make sure
you soaked the boot in hot water for at least 10 minutes, longer doesn't hurt
either.
8. Using a screwdriver with a round shaft gives you a nice handle
while you're stretching the center hole.
9. Be patient, and good luck.
