My bad. Mine, on a Mark IA, looks somewhat plastic but clearly has at least a
metal substrate to which a magnet is attracted. Perhaps it has a vinyl
covering, or maybe the pattern it exhibits is cast in. I do not know since I
have not pulled off the bottom "crash pad to get that part off yet.

I've noticed a number of you have indicated that the small piece
under the steering column is plastic. I just stuck a magnet on mine, it is
steel with 2 threaded studs to secure it to the dash. I don't know if
plastic was used for this part but you might want to put a magnet on it to
confirm plastic or steel.

My S2 Scottish friend- Hughie- a long wall expert for Joy has a SS dash in
his S2- no he isnt attempting orginal as he has to many of my S5 parts but
the dash is nice enough to replace a Tiger dash if they are the same and
after owning 7 Tigers- all have had the pebble grain plastic piece under the
steering wheel shaft outer cover. I think somone was creative and made a
dress up piece- I would like a duplicate to my dash- a THOUGHT perhaps. TtT
