Hi Stu, I found a Wiki link http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Testing_and_performance_of_IC_engines that suggests most engines burn about HP/10 gallons of fuel per hour. That would make the stock fuel pump kind of marginal if you were running a stock 260 flat-out for that long, but that's a fairly unlikely scenario. The pressure head is probably based on the density of gasoline, which is about 0.75 so that all looks right. A pump that feeds a carburetor really doesn't have to develop significant pressure, since the needle valve will open anytime the carb needs fuel and the pump just has to overcome the flow losses of the 12 feet of fuel line. A stock carb with reasonably sized needle and seat should be able to handle 3 PSI of pressure if the float is good and properly adjusted... I'm sure there's a spec for both Holley and Carter/edelbrock type carbs out there somewhere. Cheers, Theo _______________________________________________ tigers@autox.team.net Donate: http://www.team.net/donate.html Archive: http://www.team.net/archive Forums: http://www.team.net/forums Unsubscribe: http://autox.team.net/mailman/options/tigers/tigers-archive@autox.team.net |
