The reason is my inability to find what I am looking for quickly and
efficiently. Your Dad had an unbelievable ability to zero in on
answers in the archives on topics that I for one did not. I have many
times taken his advice and tried the search function, only to find
myself facing long e-mail threads, (seldom articles) which required
sifting through irrelevant conversations w/o finding the specific info
I required.
So then a question to the List, embarrassingly, would prompt your Dad
to gently fire back a polite answer along with a link to the exact
info I was looking for but was unable to find on my own.
Perhaps we all need a primer on the language and technique of
accurately pulling info out of the archives.
On the other hand, you may be right when you guess that the List is
actually a community of like-minded individuals who enjoy the
opportunity to commiserate with each other, many of whom have "been
there and done that" and can share the frustration of a problem, and
revel in the solution, at the same time giving back to those who have
helped them in the past.
Also, many of us are remote from other Tiger owners, so the
opportunity to just "hang out" with fellow enthusiasts are limited.
Firing off questions to the List almost guarantees a reply from
someone who shares your enthusiasm and excitement for our great little
cars.
Who really knows? the Archives are an incredible resource, and even
though all the info is there and perhaps is used more than your think,
the List has that one big advantage - friendly human contact.
