They have absolutly no way to prove it as they werent there when the car was
built....and mgs are rebodied all the time...you can buy a repro body out
of the UK

Nothing wrong if you plan to use the car for "off-road use" only. In most
states if the DMV knows you have removed and/or swapped the tag, they either
will not register the car or will confiscate it.
